fonts: working with in Photoshop

I’ll admit that I’m totally addicted to fonts. I have my favorites that I come back to again and again, but I also love to try new fonts. Over time, I’ve picked up a few tips for working with fonts and I’d like to share them with you today.

  • If you’re not happy with the default size of the font preview text, you can make the type larger (or smaller) by selecting edit>preferences>type and changing the size of the font preview size.

Look at how easy it is to see these font previews now!

  • One of the most exciting things I learned how to do was scroll through the fonts and seeing the change “live” in the document (yes, I admit I’m kind of a geek). To do this, make sure the text layer and text tools are selected, then click on the down arrow to bring up the font previews and click on it a second time to close the font preview window. Next, use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to change the font and see the effect of the change in the document. When you find the font you wish to use, simply select another layer and you will have selected the new font.

  • Also, you can change multiple type layers at once by selecting the layers you want to change and making the changes the same way as you’d change a single text layer. This is a huge time saver if you’re working with many small journaling areas. The quickest way to select all your text layers is to select one, then right-click on that layer in the layers palette and choose “select similar layers”. Voila! All your text layers are now selected!

I hope you found one or more of these tips helpful. Have a great day and happy scrapping!
