It’s difficult to believe that summer has already passed and the boys are back at school. We had a delightful summer filled with vacations with family and friends, swimming, and hanging-out as a family. I do not, however, miss the 110 degree days. It is amazing how cool 90 feels since we were in the hundreds for so long.
As with all good things, summer has now come to an end. We’ve dusted off the backpacks, purchased our school supplies, and braved the tax-free weekend to purchase our “first-day” outfits. This morning went off without a hitch. Both boys were “up and at ‘em”….(to quote my mom…Although I must admit that as I child I wondered why she kept referring to Adam. I figured since he was the first man he must have been ready to go every morning…idk…just one of those funny things.) Here the boys are ready for their first day back at the “knowledge factory.” (This quote is courtesy of my father.)
such a ham…..
Upon arriving home I asked the boys how their day went. I received a, “bad” and a “I don’t remember” as answers – typical responses for around here. After a bit more questioning, I discovered that they both had a good day. J did, however, find going over the rules in every class to be quite trying. “Mom, everyone KNOWS the rules. Why do we have to keep going OVER and OVER them?” He did, however, enjoy taking a quiz about his teacher. The students had to guess her age, favorite music, university, etc. He thought that was a lot of fun. Discovering new playground equipment at recess was also a highlight for both boys. With his first real night of homework and the addition of smile sticks to the class, P felt like one of the big kids. At bedtime we asked them if they are looking forward to going back tomorrow and both said, “YES!” We are off to a great start!
On a side note, even though I haven’t been posting on PM regularly, I have been planning behind the scenes for something NEW. I’m so excited that my plans are beginning to take shape and become real. Later this week, I’ll share a bit more about my plans and the new direction this blog and MDS will take in the near future. It’s time I get back to scrapping as well, so you’ll see me talking about it a lot more as well. In fact, I’m beginning a HUGE project this week! I hope to have a part of it ready to share with you soon! I know some of you might like to do it as well.
Speaking of scrapping, I created TWO pages in the past two weeks! I haven’t scrapped since March, so it was wonderful to take some creative scrappy time for myself. Here are my two pages.
This first page began with Misty’s Go Large Set #3. However, I tinkered with the template quite a bit before I came to my final version. I also used my 12 Months: Birthday and coordinating birthday subway art that comes FREE with the birthday kit. To get the colors of the word art to what they are here, I simply switched the layer mode to multiply. I extracted the left side of the picture using a layer mask. and then filled the space that was masked out with a paper from the 12 Month: Mega Kit. I wanted this page to feature the word-art because I adore it! I’ll do an additional coordinating 2 page spread with pictures/journaling from his birthday.
This second layout uses my new Frame Masks Set #10, 12 Months May, and the 12 Months Mega kit. I took this picture when we were out inspecting/taking photos of the work on our wall. I cannot get over how BIG J looks in the photograph. Wow…where does the time go?!?
So are your kiddos in school yet? If so, how did their first day go?

What cute boys! I like the ways you used photo masks in both layouts.
I used one of your templates to make the layout you can find here:

Thanks so much for the freebie!
Sue, thanks! Your layout totally cracked me up! Thank you so much for sharing it with me!
